So... what is chainstitch embroidery?
I want you to picture an old letterman's jacket with it's big, puffy letter patch. That was done by chainstitch. Now try to picture a perfectly imperfect script name on a vintage bowling shirt... or an auto repair shop uniform... FFA jackets... elaborate country western outfits complete with stitches and rhinestones. Can you see it? These were all done using chainstitch machines. Completely freehand!
Chainstitch is an artform that originated well over a century ago (!) that we are now seeing pop up across social media channels more and more.
These stitches are laid freehand by turning a crank under the machine. This handle steers the needle on top of the table. It's all so wonderfully quirky and one-of-a-kind. Chainstitching is basically a painting or drawing, but with thread. In a world of computerized and digitized everything, chainstitch embroidery produces something truly unique. You are only limited to your imagination.
